UN Day is observed in whole world on 24th of October. On the same day, United Nations Organization was formed in 1945 when representatives of 51 nations signed on a treaty. The name “United Nations Organization” was chosen at the suggestion of US President Franklin Roosevelt. It was named United Nations (UN). The purpose of observe UN day is used to highlight solid actions people can take to help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
According to its Charter, UN aims are to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war and to reaffirm faith in fundamental human rights. But in Kashmir UN has completely failed to implement its aims. Issue of Kashmir is unresolved since last 70 years. In fact this is the oldest disputed issue. Kashmiris are suffering under state terrorism of India. India has deployed hundreds of thousands of army in this small area. Kashmiris are taking struggle for their freedom legally. Recently, India has imposed curfew in Kashmir valley. Whole valley is ceased since over 100 days. Indian army has crossed all limits of state terrorism during curfew. Women, old people, even children are not safe from cruelty of Indian forces.
The history of this long rooted disputed territory goes back to the era of 1948, when Hindu ruler took agreement with India and India entered its army in Kashmir and forcibly captured it. The first war between India and Pakistan is fought due to Kashmir issue. The tribesmen of Pakistan entered into Kashmir to liberate it from India. They fought with Indian army and freed the area where today Azad Kashmir is resided. When India felt it cannot win the war, it took the issue to United Nations Security Council (UNSC). The U.N brokered a cease fire in 1949. The cease fire line is named as Line of Control. It was an outcome of mutual consent
by India and Pakistan that the UNSC and UN commission for India and Pakistan passed several resolutions on Kashmir issue after 1948. A separate commission of five countries was made and drew up a resolution calling for a referendum to decide future of Kashmir according to the will of Kashmiris. It was decided that a plebiscite will be held to take decision of Kashmir valley. But no such referendum has been carried out still.
Although India created a drama of elections in Kashmir but Kashmiris boycotted those elections. International media also reported that there was less than 10% votes ratio in Kashmir’s election. Even after drama of elections India increased its army strength. As the days are passing by India is trying to suppress Kashmir freedom movement. Indian troops have crossed all limits of cruelty. During curfew, Indian troops are killing and arresting young Kashmiris specially while bringing them out from houses. Irrespective of the participation in freedom movement or not the Kashmiri youth is victim of state terrorism they are killed, buckskinned, Kashmiri women are raped pliably, kids are murdered, and no one is saved from Indian army while living his life in Kashmir. The people of this small land are living miserable lives and struggling for freedom unarmed with the army of fully armed personnel. The conviction of this movement is save the generations of Kashmiri Muslims from maltreating, injustice and cruelty of Indian army. Kashmiri Muslims are not ready to live under the command of India and Indian troops. They want freedom and want to live with Pakistan. Even after the pre planned attack in uri sector, India is trying to withdraw the issue of Kashmir from UN by saying it is a regional dispute between Pakistan and India and it should be resolved on regional basis not internationally. Despite all the tactics India could not succeed in suppressing this freedom movement yet and freedom movement can be suppressed with cruelty and murders.
Concluding more, UN should intervene for implementation of its resolutions and help people of Kashmir to decide their future. Even UN has not pressurized India enough to withdraw curfew from Kashmir. UN should conduct a referendum under its supervision in Kashmir and Kashmiris can spend their lives freely.
