UN’s Double Standard

Written by M Rashid Tabassum

United Nations (UN) was established on 24th of October, 1945 after World War II (WW2). The purpose of UN is to save the future generations from the scourge of war and encouraging International peace and security. After WW2 different countries United States (US), United Kingdom (UK), Soviet Union (Former USSR) and others arranged meetings and to plan an organization for saving peace and promoting social, economic and political co-operation between whole nations. Finally, United Nations Organization was made in 1945. Later, it was named United Nations. At the suggestion of US President Franklin Roosevelt, it was named United Nations Organization.

UN day is celebrated on 24th of October in whole globe and is used to highlight concrete actions people can facilitate to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. According to its Charter, the UN aims: to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war,…to reaffirm faith in fundamental human rights,…to establish conditions under which justice and respect for the obligations arising from treaties and other sources of international law can be maintained, and to promote social progress and better standards of life in larger freedom.

In reality, UN has completely failed to achieve its goals. There are 2 standards of UN. One is for Muslims and other is for Non-Muslims. UN did not take any steps to solve the issues relating to Muslims or Muslim countries. UN role about Muslim issues is still negative and condemnable. There are many issues about Muslims which are on the desk of UN and resolvable since many years. Even some issues are to be resolved last many decades. Kashmir, Palestine, Burma, Syria, Iraq and others are the examples.

Kashmir’s issue is solvable since last seven decades. Muslims of Kashmir are victims of Indian aggression since many decades. India took the issue to Security Council (SC). SC passed its first resolution in 1948 that it is the right of Kashmiris to decide whether they will be part of Pakistan and India. After that, SC passed many resolutions in favor of Kashmiris but cannot implement on its own resolutions. Over 94,000 Kashmiris have been martyred since 1989. Hundreds of thousands have been arrested by Indian forces. India also forcibly captured on Junagarh and Munawadar with military action. UN did not take any pressure on India for these issues.

Palestine is another issue is Muslims which is waiting for “sleeping” UN action. Israel was founded in 1948 and after that SC adopted nearly 100 resolutions related to the Arab–Israeli conflict. Israeli forces have martyred and arrested hundreds of thousands of Palestinians. They have demolished buildings, houses, Masajid and markets. Whole border of Palestine has been sealed by Israel. America is back on Israel and continuously taking military agreements with it. UN did not take any effort for the rights of pedestrians.

In Burma, Rohingya Muslims are not considered as citizens. Budh killed thousands of Muslims. They have scorched hundreds of Muslims in Burma. Dignity of female Muslims is not safe there. Muslims are forced into unpaid labor to help government-run projects. Children have been forced into free labour as early as seven. Human rights watch has published many reports but so called organization of human rights is to be utterly heedless. As well as, Issues of Muslims of Iraq, Syria and other territories are also in pending. Muslims of these countries are oppressed and bearing cruelty.

On the other hand, UN quickly resolves the issues regarding non Muslim and their countries. It gives complete relief to these countries. In reality, UN is playing main role to subvert and distributing Muslim countries into more pieces. South Sudan is one of the best examples where UN took referendum from 9 to 15 January 2011, on whether the region should remain a part of Sudan or become independent. UN also implemented its decision and a Christian independent state was created.

Concluding more, it has been proved that UN has completely failed to defend Muslims’ rights. It is need of the hour that Muslims should establish their own organization like UN.
